The Bar Association of Seychelles ("BAS") is an association registered under the Registration of Associations Act 1959. It was founded in 1988 by members of the Seychelles Bar. The key objects of the BAS areĀ to
represent and promote the interest and welfare of the members of the
Association and to
disseminate and encourage the dissemination of information on legal subjects. The BAS does not regulate or discipline members of the Bar, this is the ambit of the Supreme Court of Seychelles. The local media and authorities often consult with the BAS on matters relating to the Seychelles legal system or on matters of national legal importance. Persons who may practice as Attorneys-at-Law and/or Notaries are eligible for full membership. Holders of law degrees and those currently enrolled in a law degree program are eligible for associate membership. Honorary membership may also be bestowed upon any person by a majority vote at a general meeting of the BAS.
