Classes of Membership
There are 3 classes of membership within the Bar Association of Seychelles ("BAS"). There are the Full Members, Associate Members and Honorary Members. Only individuals practising as or eligible to practice as Attorneys-at-Law or Notaries of Seychelles are eligible to become Full Members. Full Members benefit from being able to participate fully in all activities of the BAS. Individuals who are currently enrolled in a law degree program (or equivalent) or law degree holders (or equivalent) are eligible to become Associate Members. They also have to be proposed by two Full Members to join the BAS. Associate Members may participate fully in the activities of the BAS except that they may not vote in meetings and are not allowed to serve in the Management Committee. Save for particular classes of legal practioners as provided for by law*, Associate Members may not practice Seychelles law and are not entitled to represent themselves as such. There are no prerequisites to be eligible as an Honorary Member, except that one has to be proposed by two Full Members at a general meeting to join BAS and then be voted in as one.
