The State Counsel are lawyers with rights of audience to represent the Government in all courts of law in Seychelles. They are also in charge of criminal prosecutions before the Supreme Court and on advising the Government on legal issues.
Individuals who pass approved bar examinations are eligible to become State Counsel. As the Attorney General's Chambers is an approved chambers under the law, the initial time spent by a State Counsel in the Chambers count for their pupillage period. Individuals who obtain a law degree from approved countries are eligible to become Assistant State Counsel. These are members of the Attorney General's Chambers who are given the full powers of the State Counsel but who are not enrolled in pupillage. Legal Draftsman: Mrs Lali Wimalaratne
