The Family Tribunal

The Family Tribunal has jurisdiction over child custody and maintainance issues. They also deal with issues of domestic violence and of unruly children of majority age living with their parents.

The Family Tribunal sits in both Mahe and Praslin. Its premises on Mahe are located at Victoria House.

It generally sits with a bench of 3. A Chairman, who is invariably an Attorney-at-Law or State Counsel, and 2 members who are lay persons but who generally have significant experience in or senior roles in social affairs.

Parties disatisfied with decisions of the Family Tribunal may appeal to the Supreme Court.
