The Rent Control Board

The Rent Control Board, often simply referred to as the Rent Board has jurisdiction to hear all matters relating to tenant-landlord disputes. This can range from non-payment of rent, setting a figure for rent and the eviction of tenants.

The Rent Board sits at the Magistrates "A" Court in Victoria only on Tuesday and Friday afternoons. It generally sits as a bench of 3, with its Chairman being the incumbent Senior Magistrate and 2 lay persons as members. These lay persons usually have senior roles within the Ministry in charge of the Rent Control Board.
